Note to the 1995 Edition:
The Bramshott and Liphook Preservation Society believes that lovers of Flora Thompson's Lark Rise to Candleford books and other writings will like to have a facsimile of this Guide to Liphook, published about 1925, for which she wrote all the 'guidebook' sections beginning at page 11 and showing at every point her knowledge and love of our countryside and our footpaths.
Local people will also be interested in the illustrations, and in the advertisements recalling a Liphook still full of small shops. Many will want to know just where the shops and traders mentioned stood. We add a list of notes to help them.
Notice at the beginning of the original edition:
In presenting this first "Guide to Liphook and its neighbourhood" the Publisher desires to gratefully acknowledge his indebtedness to Mrs Flora Thompson, author of Bog Myrtle and Peat, The Peverel Papers, etc, for the splendid descriptions of this charming part of England in the following pages, which he hopes will not only interest ourselves, but also attract the ever-growing seekers after "Nature's finest garb and moods".
The Bramshott and Liphook Preservation Society have published a series of booklets on the local history of their area. They may be contacted at 12 London Road, Liphook, Hampshire GU30 7AN Tel: 01428 722162.
