The sheets contain details of every person found in the 1871 census return. The information is sorted in alphabetical order, by surname, then forename.
Entries in italics were not in the census, and have been added from other sources.
The columns contain the following information:—
1. Surname (see note):
2. Firstnames:
3. Condn: Marital status
4. Age:
5. Occupation: Standard abbreviations have been copied from the census returns (eg. FS = female servant).
6. Born: County where born.
7. [Blank]: Parish (or town) where born.
Note that while every care has been taken in the compilation of this list, you should always refer back to original documents before drawing any important conclusions from the information.
Note on representation of Surnames:
Where various spellings of the same surname occurred on the original census, these have been regularised for sorting purposes, although the enumerator's spelling is shown examples as follows:
