If I can possibly ‘flesh out’ this entry for you.....
George Henry Larby (b 24/11/1853) and his wife Charlotte née Spreadborough (b 13 Oct 1856) were from Hungry Hill, Hale, Farnham and were from a Hawker, semi-traveller, family (they can be seen on various censuses there in caravans). They never had any children of their own and the ‘son’ referred to on this note is in fact his nephew. They ‘adopted’ his sister Caroline’s illegitimate son Charles (b 28 Feb 1883) known as George! Caroline married the suspected father, Charles Burgess, when Charles jnr was 1.
I have doubts over the ‘Nov 1908’ as stated. Charles (George) married Edith Stacey (b 1891 Carshalton, who was one of 14 children) in Alton on 2 April 1908 and are my great-grandparents. Edith died in 1973 and I remember her telling me that sadly her first child (born 26 Mar 1909 died 1914 bur Headley) had died and so my nan (Amelia b Deadwater 1911) was her eldest (followed by 3 boys).
They were in Farnham in 1901.
G H Larby’s brother Edward (b 1866) married Athalia Ayres from the well-known (infamous?) ‘gypsy’ family (her birth certificate says she was born ‘in a tent’ on Widmoor Common (Worplesdon)).
George and Charlotte, and his nephew Charles George and daughter-in-law Edith are all buried in the same grave in All Saints Church Carshalton, Surrey
My grandmother, Amelia Elizabeth Eliza White née Larby, wished that she could be buried with her sister and this was granted. Her ashes (and that of her husband Lewis White and my father Jack White) are now in that grave..... see your graveyard index, stone ref 1122 grave H33.
If you look on the 1911 Headley census you see Edward Larby and his wife Athalia (named after a biblical princess) and they state that the marriage produced 5 children, 2 of which have died.
As far as I can ascertain the 5 are
Hilda Maria Lottie Larby 1869-1918 (died of childbirth and flu according to the note by Rev Laverty on the burial reg). Illegitimate, seen as ‘Lottie Ayres’ 1891 census when Athalia (Known as Ethel apparently) was Edwards ‘housekeeper’. Civil reg at Farnham sees her as Hilda Lotty Larby (though not married). No baptism found. Buried Headley.
Elderia Larby (named after Athalia’s mother, Elderia Saunders) b 1891 d before 1911. No reg found. Bap Bentley Hants 20 Sept 1891 as Eldera. Rev Laverty’s notes are the only ref to ‘fact’ that the family may have gone to Vancouver for a while (1895-1905 ish) and Elderia may have died there?
Edward Larby 1892-1893, reg as Edward in Farnham, bap as ‘Ted’ in Bentley Hampshire 18 Sep 1892.
and....!

The above are also on my family tree but not directly, but I have further details
George Arthur Pharo 1837-1957, Alice Ayres 1874-1935 (another branch of the travelling Ayres), married at Farnham 1892
their son William George Pharo born 31 May bap 3 Jul 1892 Hale.
he married Hilda Maria Lottie Larby, she born 1890 illigitimate...Lottie Ayres on 1891 census when she and her mother are living with Edward Larby...She was baptised in Hale as Charlotte Larby!, Farnham aged 6. Not sure where the Hilda Maria came from but she was married by Rev Laverty as Hilda Maria Lottie Larby on 25 Oct 1910. Her father is Edward Charles Larby and her mother Athalia Ayres as described in my notes on LARBY, and her father Edward is a brother to George Henry Larby at p1442 (both sons of Stephen Larby and Caroline Patrick of Farnham).
Hilda seems well educated judged by her excellent handwriting on her wedding certificate (in contrast to her mother, a witness, whose is just a scrawl).
Hilda Laria Lottie Larby died Nov 1918 (in burial reg Rev Laverty has written due to childbirth and Flu)
Further research and discussions with Ancestry members and obscure relatives(!) show that......
Hilda was registered at Farnham as Hilda Lotty, AND that the Charlotte baptised at Hale 6 years later was probably not her but her sister...who, of course, was called Dolly by 1911 census! b 1895.
It’s quite possible that Hilda was never baptised
Just to be clear,...it seems Hilda was never baptised whilst her parents baptised a ‘Charlotte’ in Farnham about 5-6 years later soon after the birth of a child they subsequently called Dolly!
Jack Walter Larby 1894-1875 reg as Walter George Larby Farnham and baptised as this name 4 Nov Hale 1894., BUT never used this name...was Jack Walter at the 1911 census in Deadwater and at his marriage in 1917 in Dorset (a soldier in the British Exp force 1916), near his barracks at Bovington Camp). He has TWO death reg’s!....one with his real name and one as his alias, in Poole in 1975. His wife Eliza Weldon lived to 1996 aged 98, Poole Dorset. A son, Leslie, did well....leaving £33k in 1981.
Whenever, Jack went to Poole, then his sister ‘Dolly’ may have gone with him.....
Dorothy Lotti Larby, born 14 Oct 1896 (from death cert) as Charlotte(from birth reg), bap as Charlotte 14 Dec 1896 Hale, but called ‘Dolly’ by time the 1911 census in Deadwater!. Married as Dorothy Lotti Larby on Jan 17 1917 (she and her brother were witnesses at each other’s weddings in Dorset....father Edward being a ‘fruit merchant’). She married a Sergeant William Morgan. Died sept 1980 Southampton.
So there you go,....apparently names are transient or optional if you are from traveller heritage!
